Beginning in the spring of 2026, Prospect Ridge Academy began a review of its bylaws; the foundational document that guides how the Board of Directors operate in support of PRA’s mission, values, and long-term sustainability.
In addition to the PRA Board of Directors review, legal counsel and charter school governance experts also reviewed the proposed changes to ensure compliance with Colorado law, alignment with our charter contract, and consistency with best practices in charter school governance.
PRA community members now have the opportunity to review and vote on the proposed changes. In keeping with PRA’s governance structure, and commitment to shared stewardship, voting on the proposed bylaw changes is available to all PRA community members between today, August 10 through Tuesday, September 8.
An email will be sent out to all members of the PRA community with a direct link to their voting ballot. This email will come from "vote@simplyvoting.com."
Community engagement in this process is vital as any bylaw approval requires at least 50% participation from eligible community members and a 2/3 majority of votes cast in favor of its passage.
The bylaw revisions are intended to:
Update the bylaws to reflect current nonprofit governance standards.
Strengthen transparency, ethics, and financial oversight.
Clarify the roles of the Board, administration, and membership.
Reduce potential conflicts of interest while preserving strong parent representation.
Create consistent, predictable processes for elections, board service, and governance decisions.
Position PRA for continued stability and responsible leadership as the school continues to grow.
Periodically reviewing and updating bylaws is a best practice, helping ensure clarity, transparency, and alignment with current laws and governance standards. The last full review and update of PRA’s bylaws was conducted in 2013. In the 13 years that have followed, PRA has evolved into the thriving school it is today and its bylaws are due for a refresh to reflect that growth.
PRA greatly values the partnership and engagement of its families, staff, and community members, and encourages them to participate thoughtfully in this process.
An update on the voting results will be shared with the PRA community following the conclusion of the voting window on September 10. If the proposals are approved, those bylaw changes will be adopted and take effect immediately. If not approved, the PRA Board of Directors may revise and return to the community for further consideration.
