Prospect Ridge Academy is excited to announce that three 8th grade students have earned their spot on the prestigious 2025 Colorado Middle School All State Choir!
Bre Blakesley, Izzy Boyer and Alexander Hwang joined elite company as the trio are three of only 380 middle school choir singers selected to this year’s Colorado Middle School All State Choir out of 1,555 auditions from across the state.
Middle School All State Choir is an auditioned choir for students in 7th and 8th grade in the state of Colorado. Students prepare for their auditions at the beginning of the school year and record their auditions to send in at the beginning of October.
The audition involves the following: a solo selected by the All State Board of Directors, sung scales and triads, rhythmic and melodic sight reading, and aural recall. Students who audition are judged not only on hitting the correct notes, but their diction, dynamics, and style of singing.
There are three choirs in the Middle School All State Choir: Triplo, Mescolare, and Cambiata. Triplo and Mescolare are choirs that sing in the soprano and alto registers, while Cambiata sings in the tenor and bass registers. Selected students are placed into a choir, and they have two months to learn their parts on six songs using practice tracks.
Blakesley, Boyer and Hwang will head off to the All State Festival on February 6-7, 2025, where they and other choir members will arrive having their music learned and memorized. They will work with high level directors, who will put All State Choir members through a rigorous two days of training on style, blend, and sound before the choirs before performing at All State Concert the evening of Friday, February 7. The concert is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Bellco Theatre in Denver.
The PRA trio of Blakesley, Boyer and Hwang have been members of the PRA Choir since third grade. Blakesley and Boyer were featured performers during the middle school musical production of ‘Honk!’ this past November, while Hwang plays the string bass as a member of PRA’s Concert Orchestra.
PRA has had students earn Colorado Middle School All State Choir honors in previous years (2019, 2022 and 2024), but 2025 will mark the first time that all students who auditioned from PRA were selected.
