PRA junior Sidney Palmer earns spot on CSU Honor Band

Prospect Ridge Academy junior Sidney Palmer is a young woman who walks to the beat of her own drum. Well, more like the tune of her own euphonium.

A gifted student in the classroom, and talented runner for the Miners’ cross country team, Palmer has also found time to excel in another extracurricular activity, the PRA High School band.

Palmer was recognized for her hard work this past week when it was announced she earned the second chair spot on the Colorado State University Honor Band, consisting of some of the state’s finest 10th-12th grade high school musicians.

“This is a huge accomplishment and is very much deserved,” said Mary Vogelsberg, PRA’s Band and Orchestra Teacher. “Sidney is an incredible musician and euphonium player.”

Initially a trumpet player in elementary school, Palmer is now a six-year veteran on the euphonium. She has been a member of the PRA Concert Band since eighth grade and was selected to the Adams 12 District Honor Band in 2022 as a freshman.

Palmer will now prepare for the CSU Honor Band Festival; a three-day festival between December 5-7 that takes place at the University Center for the Arts on the CSU campus in Fort Collins.

In addition to rehearsals, CSU Honor Band students enjoy several concerts given by CSU faculty and student ensembles. The experience is capped off with a performance by the Honor Wind Symphony, conducted by Randall Coleman, and the Festival Concert Band, conducted by Dr. Myra Rhoden, in the beautiful, world-class Griffin Concert Hall on Saturday, December 7.
