The sunshine committee works to arrange a monthly gift or thank you for our wonderful teachers and paraprofessionals. Pictures of our past deliveries can be found here.

End of year Teacher Gift and Gift Card Collection

The Class of 2035 will be assembling a collective end of year gift for each of the 2nd grade teachers and para (Mrs. Miller). We will be collecting gift cards and cards from the students which will be nicely arranged on sticks throughout a potted plant. The gifts will be presented to the teachers by their class the week of May 19th.

House Plants - We are in need of 5 families to help purchase the plants. For your generous purchase, we will be attaching your name to the plant so the teacher will know who the plant is from. Please reach out to Stephanie (praclassof2035glc@gmail.com) directly and include: 1) the name of the teacher/para you are purchasing for, and 2) how you would like your student's or family's name listed on the gift tag. We only need 1 plant per teacher and para recipient and are estimating the plants to cost to be approximately $30 each. We will reach out to you with the final cost after the items are selected.

Gift Card Collection - Our gift card collection will run May 5th-16th. Each classroom has an envelope labeled "collection for (teacher's name)" where students can drop their gift cards/cards. Please make sure to write both the teacher's and the student's name on the gift card/card. Please see the teacher favorites for gift card ideas.

Please reach out to me with any questions. For families who have already planned a gift, please feel free to provide a small card from your student to be added to the plant.

Thank you all for your support of the Sunshine Committee this year! We love our 2nd grade team!

I have truly loved being the GLC for the Class of 2035 over the past 2.5 years and have enjoyed getting to know so many of our wonderful families and kiddos. As we start the new year and our 2nd grade year comes to a close, it’s time to pass the torch to a new GLC who will help guide the Class of 2035 through the next three years, grades 3rd-5th. If you're interested in learning more about the volunteer GLC position and what it entails, I would be happy to meet with you and share more details. Otherwise, see further information in the Miner Mail about how to apply for this rewarding volunteer role. Thank you all for your support and collaboration over these past years and as we finish a great 2nd grade year!

2nd Grade Teachers

Taryn Cross

teacher

Hi Everyone! My name is Taryn Cross and I am so excited to start another school year here at PRA! This will be my thirteenth year teaching 2nd graders and my thirteenth year at PRA! It has been such an awesome experience to be here since day one! Teaching 2nd graders has been so fun and I cannot wait to see all of the growth our kiddos are going to make this year! :)

I grew up in Southern California and have wanted to become a teacher since I was little. It is such a privilege to be able to do what I love! I graduated with my BA in Elementary Education from Chapman University and decided I wanted to pursue my graduate degree. I thought it would be a fun experience to leave California and earn my degree in another state. I have always loved visiting Colorado, so it seemed like the perfect place to make that transition. I earned my MA in Curriculum Studies from the University of Northern Colorado and then started teaching at PRA. I am so happy that I decided to try a new place. Colorado has become home now. :)

When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my husband, son Eli, family, friends, and adorable dogs. :) I also love reading, hiking, exploring, and traveling to new places.

Here's to a wonderful year of learning and fun!

Emily Farquhar

teacher

My name is Emily Farquhar and I am starting my fourth year at PRA!  I started teaching in the mountains in 2000, and have taught kindergarten, first and second grade throughout my career.  I love building connections with students and families and feel lucky to be part of an amazing school community like PRA.  When I am not teaching, you might find me out for a walk, reading or listening to a good book, hiking, cooking or skiing!  My husband and three daughters keep me on the move too!

It’s a great day to be a Miner!  Let’s have a great year!

Rose Hunt

teacher

I am beyond excited to start my third year at PRA as a second-grade teacher. I have been teaching for 10 years with a B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies from CSU and an M.A. in Elementary Education from the University of Phoenix. My experience ranges from teaching kindergarten in Erie to teaching first grade at a Title I charter school in Commerce City. I absolutely love teaching K-2 students and helping them build the educational base all their learning will stem from in their academic journey. It is so fun to see their growth, from letter sounds to full sentences and then on to chapter books.

I was born and raised in Southern California, but beautiful Colorado has stolen my heart and it has been my home for the past 16 years. In my free time, you will find me playing volleyball, working out, or relaxing at home with my family.

Thank you for entrusting me with your child's education. I look forward to getting to know you and see the amazing things your kiddo will accomplish!

Jenna Van Bladeren

teacher

Hi everyone! My name is Jenna Van Bladeren and I have been in education for 12 years. This is my 3rd year at PRA and I really enjoy being part of the PRA Community. I love teaching because I get to build relationships with all of your children, and I get to see the academic and social growth they make throughout the school year. In my spare time I like to spend time with family and friends, going to Broncos and Nuggets games, and reading books. It is going to be a wonderful school year. Go Miners!
