Weekly Learning Targets- Week of March 9th

Homework- Sight word 'he' and 'she' papers and math worksheet.  Included is a tens frame for students to use with objects to solve the subtraction problems.
 
Literacy/Daily 5- We are working on reading in groups, word work, listening, read to self and working with Ms. Penny.  
 
Phonics/Writing- Students are working on CUPS (Capital, Understanding, Punctuation and Spelling/Spaces) to help with their writing.  They will work on writing to prompts, responding to literature and free writing.
 
Math- We are working on Subtraction using different strategies.  Students will us ten frames, pictures, number lines and more to solve subtraction problems.
 
Science-  We are working Weather and Seasons this week.  We learn about winter and snow.
 
Social Studies- We will begin learning about Pilgrims.

Dr. Seuss Day- March 2nd

Students can bring one Dr. Seuss book (labeled with name) and can wear a Dr. Seuss themed shirt or book character outfit.

Homework- Sight word 'you' and paper and math worksheet.
 
Literacy/Daily 5- We are working on reading in groups, word work, listening, read to self and working with Ms. Penny.  
 
Phonics/Writing- Students are using writing binders.  It has writing resources and a portfolio of writing pieces.  We are practicing starting with a capital letter, spaces between words and a period to the end the sentence.  
 
Math- We will finish working on Numbers to 100 and begin Subtraction.  Students should be able to count to 100 by 1's and 10's, recognize and build numbers to 100.  We are also working on building numbers to 100 with base ten blocks and identifying place value.  
 
Science-  We are working Weather and Seasons this week.  We learn about winter and snow this week.
 
Social Studies- We will continue learning about Christopher Columbus. 

Feb. 12th - Valentines Day Celebration

Hello! 
Feb. 12th will be when we exchange valentines day cards in our classroom. Please refer to any of the miner mail or GLC newsletters for the guidelines on bringing candy to the school. Tip: It helps if the student has something to carry all of their cards and treats. If not, I can always use a big baggie.

Special Events Coming Up!

Gingerbread House: Dec. 18th at 12:30 - 1:30 pm
- Everyone can come and help their child make their gingerbread house! Just make sure you have completed the volunteer training. 
 
Polar Express Day: Dec. 19th (half day)  8:15-11 pm 
 - We will take breaks through out the movie to have snack/recess and to enjoy our hot chocolate! Don't forget that it is also a PJ day! Students are allowed to bring one stuffed animal! 
 
Christmas Break: Dec. 20th - Jan. 6th 
 
Assessment Days: Jan. 7 OR Jan. 8th (Depends on which day you signed up for.) 

Bugs and wish
This week I will be introducing a tool to help kindergartners express their feelings and also how to accepts someone else's feelings. We call it a bug and a wish. I will teach students these sentence stems and help them practice using them in everyday kindergarten situations.
 
Here is an example of how to use it: 
 
Student 1: It bugs me when you touch my paper. I wish you would not do that. 
 
Student 2: I am sorry I will not do that again. OR It was an accident. Im sorry. OR Im sorry. I will work on that. OR Im sorry that I did that. Do you need anything. 

Assessment Days Tuesday(9/3) and Wednesday(9/4)

Hello! 
Friendly reminder that we have assessment days on Tuesday and Wednesday. This means that there will not be normal school these two days. Make sure that you signed up for just ONE of the time slots on ONE of the days. If you can't make it to either one of the assessment days please email me so that I can make sure to set aside time later in the week to assess your child.
