¡Bienvenidos a la clase de español!
A little about Profa. Stancer...
I grew up a little bit everywhere so when someone asks where I'm from, it's a long story. I've lived in Colorado for the majority of my life but have lived in other states in the US. From the ages of 9 to 15, I lived in Guatemala (6 months for language school) and Honduras (5 years). I went to bilingual schools while living in Honduras and that is where I picked up most of my Spanish. After high school I earned my bachelor's degree at the University of Northern Colorado, majoring in Spanish and minoring in Mexican American Studies. Before coming to PRA, I taught at a charter school in Colorado Springs for four years. In December 2019 I completed my master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction.
I'm not a traditional Spanish teacher and students will soon find out that my class looks much different than the one their older siblings and parents may have experienced. This is because I have fully embraced current studies in language acquisition and have studied the best way to learn another language and found Comprehensible Input to be more effective, longer lasting, and much more fun than traditional grammar instruction and rote memorization. It's similar to immersion but in my opinion, much more accessible for students.
Teaching for me has always been an adventure and going into my 12th year I'm excited to see what another unique school year will bring!
