Christina Jackson » Welcome!

The entire second grade team welcomes you to the 2019-2020 school year!  All four second grade teachers have been at PRA since the school's innagural year (2011-12).  We are looking forward to another amazing year of fun and learning with your kiddos!!  We strive to make second grade a "team effort," more than four separate classrooms, and often do things as a "grade level." Themed social-studies celebrations, science "rotations," and monthly birthday celebrations are all ways we work and play together.  And, don't forget about our tie dye shirts! We all create our shirts at the beginning of the year and wear them for field trips, field day, and other activities throughout the year.
Just a little bit about me... I am a Wyoming native but have lived in Colorado since 1989.  My husband and I have three sons - a college graduate, a college senior, and an 11th grader.  I have been a charter school PARENT for almost 20 years and I cannot speak highly enough about my charter school experience (as both a parent and teacher) and I believe strongly in the Core Knowledge curriculum.
I've got two "twenty-something" sons, both living on their own now (one in Wisconsin and one in Colorado)!  Want to know what THAT is like? Please feel free to ask!  I've been there and done that with nearly every school-related thing you can imagine!  I am big on "personal responsibility and accountability" and strive to build great relationships with my students AND their families.  (For those of you who have had a student - or students - in my class in previous years:  Welcome back!!!)
Teaching is a second career for me.  I have two BS degrees in Microbiology and Medical Technology from the University of Wyoming and before becoming a teacher I worked for about 15 years in the startup biotech industry in Boulder.  I earned my MEd at Colorado State University and completed my teacher licensure program at the University of Colorado - and now here I am!  My family says I am a perpetual student... and I can't argue with that observation.  I try to model "learn something new every day" for my students!
I am most noted around school for my enthusiasm for coffee!  My family and I enjoy all things in the great outdoors and I am a frequent spectator at my son's soccer games.  Our oldest son stayed to work in Wisconsin after college, so we also enjoy visiting him out there.
I am looking forward to a GREAT school year!!
