Welcome to 8th Grade Social Studies! This is going to be an amazing year. My name is Mrs. Anderson, and I will be your Social Studies teacher this year. This is my 9th year of teaching middle school, and I am sure it will be one of the best ever.
I was new to PRA last year, and learned a ton. I'm very excited that I get to have "do-over" and put all of the things I learned into action. In Social Studies this year we are finishing the Core Knowledge sequence, and learning about topics like the Fall of the British Empire, the world since 1945, (with topics like The Cold War, the Civil Rights Movement, and the Vietnam War) and the geography of Canada and Mexico. I love teaching, and I love teaching Social Studies. There are so many fun topics to discuss, and 8th graders are at a wonderful point in their lives to make their own conclusions and judgements about the world. I hope to hear your thoughts and opinions along the way!
A little bit about me -- I have lived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the Twin Cities, and Boston, Massachusetts, in addition to living in Colorado for 12 years total. I graduated from St. Olaf College with a degree in Political Science and Social Studies Education. I enjoy reading, hiking, hosting friends and family by cooking delicious food, and traveling. Most importantly, I have 3 kids, all of whom attend PRA in Kindergarten, 3rd and 6th grades. They were all 3 born in different states, and keep me very busy. You might see them around before and after school, helping me around my classroom.
Please don't hesitate to come and chat - I love middle schoolers and their families, and being a part of the PRA community has been a wonderful experience!
