Middle School Device Policy
6th Grade Device Policy
We are implementing some positive changes to our student personal computer policy for the 2022-2023 school year that will help promote a healthier and more productive classroom environment for our students. These changes are based on research on screen time and our own experiences around multi-tasking, distraction, and what healthy and realistic expectations we can ask of our students.
Beginning in the Fall of 2022, PRA will be supplying all of our 6th Grade students with school-issued Chromebooks for an annual fee of $85, to be assessed each year of middle school. At the end of 8th Grade, students will have full ownership of their computers and may keep them for their own use beyond middle school. Our school-issued Chromebooks will be equipped with Lightspeed to help our kids stay focused on their school work.

If a student is found to be using their computer for personal use (gaming, social media, texting, personal emails, etc.), they will be assessed a “violation” with the following guidelines:
1st Offense: The device shall be confiscated and secured. Parent/guardian shall be notified and the device may be released to the student upon review of this policy with the student.
2nd Offense: The device shall be confiscated and secured. Parent/guardian shall be notified and the device may be released to the parent/guardian upon review of this policy with the parent/guardian.
3rd Offense: The third offense will be considered disruptive behavior and a defiance of authority, and may result in a minimum of a school issued detention. The device shall be confiscated, secured, and parent/guardian shall be notified. The device may be released to the parent/guardian upon review of this policy.
4th Offense: Upon the fourth offense, the privilege to possess a computer on campus will be revoked as determined by PRA Administration in conference with the student’s family. One of our social goals, as a part of our mission and vision, is to help our students maintain a healthy relationship with their technology in school. In conjunction with you, our PRA families, we want our students to use their computers to their fullest academic potential while avoiding the pitfalls of the never-ending distractions that await them online. We want to foster independence and responsible computer use to prepare our students for high school and beyond, and we will do this with education and discourse through our Access classes, while gradually releasing responsibility to students as they advance through middle school.
Responsible use of technology fits into our vision to create Academic, Social, and Ethical leaders at Prospect Ridge Academy, and we’re looking forward to empowering your students to establish a productive balance in their digital lives.

7th and 8th Grade Device Policy
We are implementing some positive changes to our student personal computer policy for the 2022-2023 school year that will help promote a healthier and more productive classroom environment for our students. These changes are based on research on screen time and our own experiences around multi-tasking, distraction, and what healthy and realistic expectations we can ask of our students.
The following changes are mandatory for our rising 6th Grade families only next year, and will be phased into the higher grades in subsequent years. However, as rising 7th and 8th Grade families, you have the option to opt in to our program voluntarily so that your student can use a PRA-supplied computer for the remainder of their middle school career. If you choose to opt into the program, we will distribute your students’ new computer to them during our Check-in Fair at the start of the 2022-2023 school year.
