ES Monthly Update, October 2022

Dear Elementary Miner Families,

What an amazing month we have experienced this October. There have been so many wonderful things your child(ren) have been participating in over the last month and they have grown through these experiences.

I want to personally thank everyone who attended this fall’s parent-teacher conferences. It is incredibly important to the success of your child that there is a strong school-to-home connection. The success of your child(ren) truly stems from the partnership of providing them support alongside their teacher. I would also like to take an opportunity to give a shout out to all of our amazing PRA staff. Their dedication in supporting their students and collaborating with our community is incredible.

In addition, over the last professional development day, the PRA staff spent quality time with one another discussing best practices and how we can continue to learn and grow alongside one another to become stronger educators for our students. Some areas of focus included RISE training, discussing specific content areas and student data, as well as discussions around Teach Like a Champion and Differentiated instruction. I could not be more proud of their focus and dedication in being lifelong learners. Educators wear many hats, and our PRA staff is incredibly dedicated to helping your child(ren) grow. Please make sure and take time to thank them for their love, support and dedication in growing children.

Happy Fall Everyone!

EVENTS & Highlights

    • Take a few minutes to hear from our amazing 5th Grade Level Leader, Mrs. Lostroh. She takes time to highlight what your student can expect when they experience being a 5th grader here at PRA!
  • Thank You
    • A huge thank you to our amazing Board of Directors and Executive Director for visiting our classrooms over the last month. It was wonderful to showcase the amazing work happening in our classrooms and throughout our building. We appreciate your support!
    • We held our third in-person assembly with all K-5 staff and students, and it continues to be a wonderful success. Coming together and discussing what it means to be a PRA Miner was outstanding! Take a look at our presentation on what was covered during our time together.

  • First Quarter Grades
    • Your child’s First Quarter grades are viewable in your Infinite Campus parent portal account. We encourage you to review your child’s current grades and reach out to their homeroom teacher with any questions or concerns. At PRA we utilize a standards-based grading system to demonstrate mastery of specific standards in each content area. SBG (standards-based grading) measures student progress relative to specific learning standards and allows students to progress monitor their learning towards mastery. Take a look and celebrate with your child their successes and areas of growth!
      • Here is a key that outlines what codes you will see in Infinite Campus for your child. Please feel free to reach out directly to your child’s homeroom teacher with questions or concerns.
      • / = teachers did not cover the standard completely this quarter or semester
      • 1,2,3,4 = teachers covered the content, students submitted work and we can provide an indication of mastery

1 = not proficient

2 = partially proficient

3 = proficient

4 = advanced proficient

**Kindergarten through 4th grade students, please note that you will see a / for your child’s Q1 grade for elementary music.. This is due to not having a full-time elementary music teacher who is able to consistently take a grade for your child’s music standards. We have been very lucky to have several rotating substitute teachers covering the vacancy and are working diligently to fill this position. For now, it was in our student’s best interest to provide a / to represent their current grade/participation within this classroom. If you have any questions, please contact the elementary administrators.

  • Core Knowledge Language Arts
    • As you are aware, last year PRA adopted a CKLA curriculum to better support our Core Knowledge aligned curriculum. Our teachers and staff have been working hard and staying focused on the instructional delivery and implementation of the CKLA curriculum over the last two years and we have observed great success in our student’s growth/achievement. If you are interested in learning more about the CKLA curriculum, please reference the following link and reach out to your child’s homeroom teacher or our Literacy Content Specialist, Carrie Kelly with any questions.
