Principal Thygesen's Message -- Make it Stick

Transcript of the video:
Hi, PRA families.
We just completed our first quarter, and it has been very enriching to witness the amazing academic and emotional growth your kids have made since the first quarter of last year. Thank you for choosing PRA to be a part of your lives.

Today, I wanted to talk about our community education series on what it means to be an academically rigorous and college preparatory school. As a part of this series, Miss Baldwin and I narrated a video two weeks ago about the importance and the many benefits of testing. So far, 114 of you have watched, and I want you to know that I'm grateful for your time. If you haven't watched the video, please set aside 12 minutes in the next day or two to do so. My hope is that you'll learn how testing is a key component in learning retention, in addition to understanding the many benefits to your students, our teachers, and our school.

For our next installment, we are going to discuss the data-supported and surprising learning strategies in the book, Make it Stick. My ask of you today is to pick up a copy of this book and read through it in the next 10 days.
We are going to send out an informational video on the book next week, and then follow up with a parent workshop at 5:00 o'clock on October 27th to discuss how we can help our kids understand how learning works and the study habits that will ensure them the best success in school and life.

I'll give you a hint. Many of us, including myself, studied in all the wrong ways when we were in school. There's no downside to reading the book, and it'll help your kids become better lifelong learners, it'll give us a chance to get together and talk shop. If the 27th comes along and you haven't read the book, I still want you to come to the workshop so we can learn from each other and you can hear about what we learned by reading the book.
So take care and enjoy the long weekend with your kids. I'll see you soon. Thanks.
