Honors Biology

Course Description

Honors Biology at PRA is a laboratory-based course in which we will study issues related to living organisms, their life processes, and their relationships with each other and the environment.  Topics will include biomolecules, cell processes, genetics, human anatomy & physiology, evolution, biodiversity and taxonomy, homeostasis in organisms, and ecology.
Throughout the year, we will focus on developing our critical thinking skills using the scientific method & evidence-based reasoning, and will endeavor to place biology content in the context of its historical development, ethical/social issues, and current biotechnology.
The Honors Biology course will follow the same sequence of units as the standard level class, but is designed to challenge advanced students by increasing the pace of instruction, exploring concepts to a more complex level, and applying our learning to current events & research in life science. Please note that this course will require a student who is highly self- disciplined, possesses strong study and organizational skills, and has genuine interest in science. Students are expected to give significant effort inside and outside of the classroom to be successful.
